Julia Lorene Girton, 89, of Brazil died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at 12:35 a.m. in Clay Health Center of Brazil.

Born May 15, 1915, in Harmony, she was the daughter of Oscar and Sylvia Ann McQueen Acree.

She graduated from Van Buren High School, class of 1933, and was a saleslady at G.C. Murphy Co. in Brazil for more than 35 years.

On June 15, 1952, she married Melvin O. Girton who died May 25, 1962.

She was a member of Knightsville Order of Eastern Star No. 280 for more than 25 years and was a member of the Clay County Senior Citizens Center. She received many ribbons for her cooking and baking talents at the fair. She was an accomplished seamstress and she volunteered to help at the Forest Park Pool for many years. She enjoyed her dogs and spending time with family.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Doris Martin and husband, Don, and Donald Stevenson and wife, Ethel, all of Brazil, Bob and Kay Stevenson of Terre Haute, Bill and Carroll Stevenson of Princeton, Texas, and Ron and Cheryl Stevenson of Peoria, Ill.; many great-nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Ruby Stevenson.

Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in French Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Alstott officiating. Burial will follow in Calcutta Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
