Ruth M. West, 85 of Clay City died Sunday April 3, 2005, at 1:30 a.m. at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility in Knightsville.

She was born June 12, 1919, in Owen County the daughter of Jesse and Dora Neiswinger Leohr. She graduated from Clay City High School, Class of 1938. June 25, 1948, she married Albert M. West. He preceded her in death Sept. 1, 2002.

As a young woman, she was a clerk at the Ideal Store, Charley Leohrs' Grocery Store and at Lucille Collins' Dress Shop. For 24 years she was a cook for Clay City schools and was very well known for her delicious yeast rolls. She was also known as an excellent seamstress.

She was a member of the First Brethren Church for the past 70 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, Robert Dean West, two brothers, Virgil "Bud" Leohr and Raymond Leohr.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Lana and Bob Arnold of Clay City and Nancy and Steve Withers of Knightsville; two granddaughters, Jodee Beder and husband Doug of Center Point, and Mandy Hill and husband Scott of Brazil; one grandson, Dustin Withers and his wife Cari of Cory; two great-granddaughters, Oaklee Marie Beder, and Morgan Riley Withers; one great-grandson Brylan Scott Hill; one sister Ormenta "Sis" Cordell of Clay City; many nieces, nephews and other extended family

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, with Pastor Tom Hess officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m., and again Wednesday prior to services.
