Norma Walton, 82, of Brazil, died April 1, 2005 at 4:50 a.m. at the Clay Health Center. She was born April 22, 1921 in Putnam County.
The daughter of Charles and Maude Gibbs Slavens, she attended school in Putnam County and formerly attended Annunciation Church. In years past, she worked at G.C. Murphy's in Brazil. Most of her working years were focused on being a caregiver. She worked in many homes in Putnam and Clay counties caring for children and the elderly. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Larry Walton and his wife Pat of Terre Haute, and Dorothy Cooper of Brazil; grandchildren, Daryl Walton of Terre Haute, Billy Stultz of Brazil, Mason Cooper and Curt Cooper of Brazil; great-grandchildren, Greg, Jessie, Zach, Miriah and Haley Stultz and Cade Cooper; one sister, Dorothy Smith of Greencastle, and one brother, Lloyd Slavens of Indianapolis; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; the father of her children, Ralph Walton; four brothers, Harold Slavens, Glen Slavens, Carl Slavens and Cecil Slavens; and three sisters, Ruth Cline, Hazel Spaulding and Madonna Slavens.
Services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., with Rev. Chester Hapenny officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
