Betty Amers Howald, 81, of Brazil, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, in Clay County Health Center.

She was born July 23, 1923, to Charles W. and Myrtle M. Corlett Amers. On Jan. 17, 1943, she married Leroy Howald, who preceded her in death.

She was a 1943 graduate of Riley High School and worked many years in the credit department at Montgomery Ward at Terre Haute and Greencastle.

Survivors include four nieces, Beverly Joann DeWeese of Milwaukee, Wis., Ruth Criss of Terre Haute, Judy Giesking of Brazil and Marjorie Moseman of Indianapolis; five nephews, Richard Amers of Reelsville, Charles Amers of Seymour, William Amers of Vincennes, John Amers of Marietta, Ga. and James Martin of Martinsville; two sisters-in-law, Etta Hinote of Reelsville and Jessie Stewart of Seelyville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, in French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., Brazil, with visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Poland Chapel Cemetery.
