Gladys Irene Cox, 100, of Brazil, formerly of the Bowling Green area, passed away at the home of her granddaughter April 24, 2005, at 3:33 am.
She was born July 17, 1904, in Clay County, the daughter of Emery Moon and Lydia Killion Moon. She attended school in Washington Township. As a young girl she worked at a canning factory in Ashboro where she met Ernest Cox. They were married Oct. 10, 1925. They had a family farm together and she enjoyed working at all aspects of the farm. They were grain farmers and also raised cattle.
She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 304 in Bowling Green. She had been a member of the Mt. Carmel United Brethren Church. She enjoyed crocheting, making dollies, and playing Euchre and Dominos with her family.
She is survived by her two daughters, Betty Gallez and her husband David of Center Point, and Annabelle Sneddon of Brazil; one son and daughter in law, George and Pauline Cox of Rome City, Ind.; a daughter in law, Ethel Cox of Linton, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, Maryellen Chatham and husband Larry, Vicki Pflueger and husband Mike, Johnny Cox and wife Karen, George Cox, Jr. and wife Patty, Mike Cox and wife Patty, Greg Cox and wife Sharon, Loucinda McIntire and husband Paul, Beverly Stewart and husband Kenneth, Daniel Gallez, Joanna Wiggins and husband James, Rose Sneddon, Vicki Briones, Loretta Gwin and husband Stephen; 25 great-grandchildren, Michael Chatham, Aaron Chatham, Frieda Rose Collire, Matthew Pflueger, Angela White, Sara Schultz, Aaron Cox, Adam Cox, Cathy Luther, Megan Cox, Seth Cox, Bryce Cox, Luke Cox, Jesse Cox, Gregory Cox, Avery Cox, Steven Cox, Mike Flora, Thomas Flora, Aaron Stewart, Jennifer Stewart, Stephen Stewart, Melissa McIntire, Cody Gwin and Noah Gwin; 9 great-great grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; one nephew Eddie Moon and wife Lorene.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernest Cox passed away Aug. 12, 1975; one daughter Mary Howald and husband Harry; one daughter in law, Frieda Cox; one son, John Cox; one son in law, Paul Sneddon; one brother Oscar Moon; one sister Leatha Bell; and one special cousin Esther Harris.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at French Funeral Home with Diana Walden officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and again Thursday prior to services.
