Barbara L. Allen, 56, Brazil died at her residence at 9:12 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, following a long battle with cancer.

Born in DeSoto, MO, on May 26, 1948, her parents were Joe Matthews Jr. and Eunice Boss Matthews Hughes.

Her mother moved the family to Indianapolis during her childhood, and she attended Ben Davis High School. She also was a former resident of Rockville and moved to Brazil in 2002 when her daughter purchased the Alabama Bar and Grill.

She had been a cook there until her illness weakened her. She also had been a cook for restaurants in Rockville.

She was a member of American Legion Post 64 Auxiliary of Indianapolis and VFW Post Auxiliary in Speedway.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Allen.

Surviving are her husband, Ray V. Allen, whom she married Aug. 9, 1964, in Indianapolis; one daughter, Kelly Market, Brazil, and her special friend, Brian Herrington; one son, Daniel Allen, Rockville; three grandchildren, Zachary and Hunter Allen, both of Rockville, and Kayla Market, Brazil; two brothers, Joe Matthews III, and his wife, Kathleen, Avon, and Steven Matthews, and his wife, Peggy, Fishers; one sister, Tammy Guffey, Indianapolis; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the Lawson-Miller Chapel with the Rev. Ron Branson and the Rev. Bill Johnson, both of the Avon United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.

A family burial service will be held at a later date at the Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.

The family sincerely requests that memorial contributions be made to the Vista Care Foundation, or to the American Cencer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
