Mrs. Juanita Fatima Brooks, age 86, of Greencastle, passed away Friday evening at her residence at Autumn Glen.

Born June 18, 1918 in Terre Haute, Indiana, she was the daugher of Tom & Edna (Honeycutt) Miles. Early years were spent at the Glen Home in Terre Haute and later at Carbon, IN with Mr. & Mrs. Milt Williams. She married Fred L. Brooks on April 25, 1965 and he preceded her in death on March 20, 2002.

She was a graduate of Indiana State University with a B.S. in 1967 and a M.S. in 1974 in the fields of art and education. She taught five years in the Greencastle School System and worked fifteen years with the Putnam County Welfare in child and family services. She became a clown with the State Smiles Unlimited, volunteering services to schools, churches, and nursing homes. As an artist, she won awards in metal sculpturing and photography. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Greencastle.

She is survived by her sons, Milton Sanders & wife, Valerie of Fountain Valley, CA. and John Van Sandt & wife, Ann of Marshall, IL.; two daughters, Peggy Janet Sanders of Oceanside, CA. and Alice Van Sandt of Newburgh, IN; two stepdaughters, Elinor Ziegelman & husband, Robert of Greencastle and Roma Holt of Treasure Island, FL.; 11 grandchilden; and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Bruce Frost; a sister, Pauline Parker; and a half sister, Naomi Hamm.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle, IN with the Rev. Paul Bowen officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday until time of service.
