Kenneth H. "Coach Pat" McCaffry, 77, of Lafayette died at 11:17 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2005 at the Heart Center of Indiana. Born April 23, 1928, in Evansville, he had lived in Lafayette since 1961. He married Marjorie Nickels on August 31, 1951 and she survives.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather Coach McCaffry was an accomplished athlete who was a 1950 graduate of Purdue University and had played on the football team his entire college career. He is an inductee in the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Patrick McCaffry of Pittsburgh, PA; Michael (Lora) McCaffry of Lafayette, IN; Tim McCaffry of Brownsburg, IN; a daughter Lynne (Eric) Newlon of Beech Grove, IN; and eight grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Shirley Hollingsworth of Evansville, IN.
As a husband, father, grandfather, coach and educator he touched the lives of thousands and will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at Hippensteel Funeral Home, 222 N. 9th St., Lafayette, IN. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 404 N. 6th St., Lafayette.
