Alice B. Tarvin, 91, Indianapolis, formerly of Brazil, died Tuesday, May 17, at 9:30 p.m. at Spring Mill Meadows. She formerly resided at Clearwater Commons for three years, and in Brazil on West State Road 340 and North Walnut Street.
She was born in Staunton on Dec. 27, 1913. Her parents were John Tarvin and Rebecca Walzer Tarvin.
A 1931 graduate of Staunton High School, and she later earned a B.S. Degree in secondary education from Indiana State University in Terre Haute. She taught girls' physical education at Staunton and at McLean Jr. High School in Terre Haute for a total of 41 years, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of Clay and Vigo Counties Retired Teachers Association, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, the Genealogy Society and Historical Society of Clay County.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Noble Tarvin; one sister, Laura Ellen Gross; and a nephew, Steve Gross.
Surviving are one sister, Mary Anderson, Indianapolis, IN; a niece, Ann Tarvin, Plainfield, IN; two nephews, Everett W. Gasaway, Indianapolis, IN and Robert Gross, Zionsville, IN and several cousins.
Services will be held at 11:00 Saturday, May 20, 2005, in Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., Brazil. Burial will be in Clearview Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and prior to services Saturday.
