Edna Merle Pence, 89, of Brazil died at 2:30 p.m. May 18, 2005, at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
She was born December 17, 1915, at Yale, Michigan, she was the daughter of George and Marie West Shearer. She graduated from Pontiac High School in Michigan in 1933. She was employed as an industrial secretary for General Motors and also Chrysler Corporation. On July 6, 1948, she was married to Cecil S. Pence at Phoenix, Arizona. In 1956, she graduated from Purdue Practical Nursing Course and was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse and Medical Secretary in Lake County before moving to Brazil in October 1970. She was employed here as an LPN at Clay County Health Center and later as office secretary for the Clay County Chamber of Commerce. She was interested in the arts and her hobbies included oil painting and watercolor painting. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Clay County Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband on February 9, 1987, her parents, two sisters and one brother, Herbert A. Shearer.
Surviving are one sister, Jennie E. Hinshaw, Sun City, Arizona, and nieces and nephews who all reside out of town.
