Dalva Petrey, 80, of Greencastle passed away Thursday evening at the Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 29, 1924, in Bobtown, Ky., the son of Oscar William and Martha (Blanton) Petrey. On Dec. 13, 1973, he married Betty Lou Brattain and she survives.

He was a graduate of Greencastle High School Class of 1943 and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had worked for France Stone Co. for 44 years and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of First Christian Church in Brazil.

Survivors include his wife; stepson, Steve Brattain and wife, Sandy, of Brazil; a brother, James G. Petrey and wife, Eyleen, of Greencastle; two sisters, Feba Jane Ridgway of Putnamville and Mary Fern Hayes of Greencastle; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and a sister, Ruby Whicker, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, 703 E. Washington St., Greencastle, with the Rev. Lyle Monnett officiating. Burial with military rites will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
