Earl Griffin Jr., 79, of Carbon, died Friday, May 27, 2005, at his residence.
He was born April 28, 1926, in Clay County, the son of Earl Griffin Sr. and Tressa Sharp Griffin. He attended Van Buren High School. On May 24, 1947, he married Mary Louise Hawkins. During his working years he was employed by Bridgeport Brass as a rolling mill operator. He attended Wesley Chapel Church.
He enjoyed stock car and go-cart racing, along with working on small engines. He enjoyed spending time at the junkyard. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 275. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Morris Griffin and John Griffin; and one sister, Marguerite Harrison.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise; three sons, Ed Griffin, Steve and Deanne Griffin and Jerry and Sharon Griffin, all of Brazil; grandchildren, John and Shawn Gurley of Brazil, Lisa and Dan Chadd of Crawfordsville, Amy and Christian Conville of Indianapolis, David Griffin of Carbon, Earl and Amanda Griffin of Nashville, Tenn., and Scott and Jennifer Griffin of Brazil; five great-grandchildren, Kena Gurley, Kendall Gurley, Camden Chadd, Carson Chadd and Kallie Griffin; one brother, Charles and Ann Griffin of Indianapolis; one sister, Marilyn and Don Wells of Brazil; special friends Jill Owen and Jon Dome; and a large extended family.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at French Funeral Home with Rick Short officiating. Burial will follow in Clear Run Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and prior to services on Wednesday. Leave a heart of condolence at www.frenchfuneralhome.com.
