He was born September 13, 1931, in Denver, Colorado. He was the son of Dwight D. and Christina (Bell) Alvey.
He grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. From 1948-1965 he served in the Air National Guard as an aircraft mechanic. In 1996 he moved to Texas. On May 17, 2002, he married Bettye Standly Stoffergen. He was a talented carpenter, a creative inventor, a mechanic and enjoyed flying.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Betty Standly Alvey; children; Karen Kuonen of Fort Worth, Texas and Stephen D. Alvey and wife, Melinda of Greenfield, Indiana; one sister, Dorothy Milby of Issaquah, Washington, and three nieces.
