Nelle N. Jenkins, age 102, of Brazil, died at 8:55 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Clay Health Center in Brazil, Indiana.

She was born September 19, 1902, in Center Point, Indiana. She was the daughter of James and Nevada Hicks Jenkins. She graduated from Brazil High School and then went on to graduate from Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute as Salutatorian of her class. She began her 47-year-long teacher career at Center Point and continued teaching at the Zeller and Pinckley Schools. She taught school at Meridian Street Elementary school from 1929 until her retirement in 1969.

She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Kappa Delta Phi, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and a 50-year member of Easter Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Beulah Jenkins, Faye Jenkins, Lula Daviess and Olyn Killion and three brothers, Everett Jenkins, John Wm. Jenkins and J. Emery Jenkins.

She is survived by three nieces, Christine Clark and husband John of Brazil, Martha Waite and husband David of Clinton, and Mary Ellen James and husband David of Brazil and three nephews, Albert Killion and wife Belle of Brazil, William Daviess and wife Lois of Glenshaw, Pennsylvania and James R. Jenkins and wife Sandra of Brazil. She is also survived by several great nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Tim Russell officiating.
