Irene Rector, age 88, of Brazil, died Sunday, June 26, 2005 at her home west of Brazil.

She was born June 6, 1917 in Clay County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Ray and Nellie Davis Rector.

Following graduation from Brazil High School she attended and graduated from Indiana State Teachers College earning her Masters Degree. She began her career in 1941 and taught school until her retirement in 1977 after 26 years of teaching. She taught school at several Indiana schools including Thorntown, Walnut Grove and locally at Jackson Street and Eastside Elementary and in the last few years of her teaching career she supervised new teachers prior to their licensing.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Brazil where she taught the 5th and 6th grade classes, the Retired Teachers Association, Wesleyan Service Circle and the Clay County Historical Society. In her leisure she enjoyed ceramics work.

She was preceded in death by her parents; half-sister Geneva Bergen and half-brother, Wilford Rector.

She is survived by her sister, Waneta Rector of Brazil; two nieces, Rose Ograin of Santa Maria, California and Theresa Rossling of Van Nuys, California and one nephew, Lee Bergen of Bellflower, Ohio.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
