Evelyn E. Luther, 85, of Clay City, pased away June 30, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility. She was born October 15, 1919, in Clay City, the daughter of Herbert and Vern Damer VanHorn. She graduated from Clay City in the Class of 1937. In her working career, she worked at Quaker Maid in Terre Haute, Crist Jewelry in Clay City, and the Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles in both Brazil and Clay City. She also was the bookkeeper for the Square Deal Repair Service, their family-owned and operated business. She was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church and the Clay City Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin "Bing" Luther, whom she married March 22, 1952; one son, Ed West, and his wife, Barbara, of Carmel; one daughter, Rhonda Huxford, and her husband, David, of Rosedale; two grandchildren, Brian West, of Indianapolis and Angela Huxford of Bloomington; three stepgrandchildren, James Huxford and wife, Rhonda, of Lyford, Veda Vester and husband, Jeff, of Terre Haute, and Rena Alexander of Texas; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Meyer, of Clay City; nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Glenn VanHorn, Gilbert VanHorn, Paul VanHorn, Galen VanHorn, and Herman VanHorn; and two sisters, Naomi Riggs and Virginia Rose Orman.

Services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Rev. Jolly Moody officiating. Burial will follow at Sink Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 o'clock services. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to Vista Care Hospice.
