Melvin "Tiny" Tyler, 85, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2005, in the Holly Hills Health Care.
He was born in a family of 11 on February 11, 1920, in Vigo County to Robert and Eliza Shepard Tyler. He was a successful farmer for many years. He enjoyed sports and listening to and watching baseball and basketball on radio and television and also enjoyed talking with people.
On November 16, 1959, he married Carol Marie Hayes Tyler. They made their home in the Van Buren area on his parents homestead.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Curnie Tyler, Will Tyler, Luther Tyler and Ted Tyler and five sisters, Lottie Spears, Elsie Sparks, Dorothy Yeager, Katherine Burrows and Margaret Hartman.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, one daughter, Constance Marie Tyler, a twin sister, Mildred Tyler Bell of Terre Haute. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law Gerald Hartman and Forest Hayes and wife Jennetta and six sisters-in-law, Mildred Tyler, Elizabeth Tyler, Laveda Krider, Ann Marlow, Eva Hayes and Myrna Mercer along with several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
