Richard Waldby Kerr, age 57 of Brazil, died early Monday morning, August 22, 2005, at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.

He was born November 11, 1947, in Brazil, Indiana, as the son of Raymond and Barbara Mortensen Kerr. Following high school he joined the U.S. Army and piloted helicopters in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. During his military service he earned a Purple Heart for battlefield wounds and was permanently disabled.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1127, American Legion Post 2 and the Eagles Lodge. He was united in marriage to Karolyn J. Sherfey July 21, 1973.

He is survived by his parents of Bradenton, Florida; his wife Karolyn; two sisters, Sue and husband Bill Niles of Wellsboro, PA and Patricia and husband John Watkins of Elmira, NY; mother-in-law Anita Sherfey of Brazil, sister-in-law Diane Lawson of Brazil and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

At the request of the deceased, his body will be cremated and buried with military honors at Summit Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
