Fredrick "Freddie" James Buck, 84, of LaPorte, IN, died at Fountainview Terrace Nursing Home in LaPorte, Saturday, August 20, 2005, following an extended illness.
Born March 31, 1921, he was the son of Fredrick A. and Lottie B. White Buck. In 1939 he graduated from Van Buren High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1940 he married Lorraine "Dolly" Smith, she preceded him in death. He was a lathe operator for Merz Engineering Company in Indianapolis where he was involved in making a part for the Apollo II Space Craft. A member of the American Legion post 1127, VFW Post 2, and the Carbon Masonic Lodge, he enjoyed making and firing ceramics as well as spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a grandson Ken Buck and a sister Buelah Gentzsch.
Survivors include a son Charles and wife Brenda Buck of LaPorte, IN; one sister Mary M. Lawson of Highland, IN; a grandson Dru and wife Mique Buck of South Bend, IN; two granddaughters Edie and husband Danny Wise of Georgetown, TX and Kelly and husband Mike Aroney of Signal Hill, CA; four great grandchildren C.J. Engle, Doug Wise, Lauren Aroney and Arun Buck as well as many nieces and nephews.
Masonic and VFW services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel in Brazil, IN Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. At his request cremation will follow. Visitation will be at the chapel Saturday from 2:00 until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
