Mabel Kidwell, age 93, of Brazil, died at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at Regional Hosital in Terre Haute, IN.

Mabel was born October 18, 1911, in Vigo County, Indiana, as the daughter of Ira and Clara Richter Kidwell. Following graduation from Brazil High School she began her long and successful working career in the field of decorating and paints; earning a national reputation for her technical knowledge of paint. She later worked in local aircraft manufacturing facilities as supervisor in accounting and late rose to the position of office manager.

She was a member of the Berea Christian Church, Friends of the Library and Business & Professional Women (BPW). Mabel joined BPW in 1946 and served in numerous local and state positions including district director, state treasurer, 3rd, 2nd and 1st vice presidents and state president. During her activities in BPW she participated in the first local BPW Tourism Committee, the annual BPW Reality Store program and was chairman of the Young Career Woman Committee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Chester and Lawrence Kidwell; one nephew, Max Kidwell, one great-nephew, Damon Myrick and sister-in-law, Madge Kidwell.

She is survived by one nephew, Don, and wife, Ruth Ann Kidwell, of Brazil and two nieces, Joyce and husband Bill Myrick, of Brazil and Joyce Kidwell of Rockville, Ind. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, Bob Kidwell and wife Mary, Bill Kidwell and wife Yong, Mary Kidwell, Hank Kidwell and wife Jennifer, Darrin Kidwell and wife Heather, Dawn Ann Fulks and husband Chuck and Diane Jensen and husband Randy and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, September 9th at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Hess officiating. Burial will follow at Harpold Cemetery. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Clay County Community Foundation Mabel Kidwell Scholarship Fund.
