Gilbert "Gib" Ray Butcher Sr., age 69, of Greencastle, passed away Friday morning at his residence.
Born September 7, 1936 in Peach Creek, West Virginia, he was the son of Aurby Ray & Margaret (Hull) Butcher. He attended Eastside High School in Huntington, W. VA.. He married Una (Britton) Butcher on Nov. 3, 1961 and she preceded him in death in 1991. He married Mary (Morgan) Butcher on Oct. 26, 2002, and she survives.
He worked in the service department at the York Car dealership in Greencastle. He had previously worked as an assembler with Mallorys in Greencastle for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He was a United States Army Veteran. He was also a member of the First Assembly of God Church; Moose Lodge #1592; American Legion Post #58; and the Eagles Lodge, all of Greencastle.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Butcher; three sons, Gilbert Ray Butcher Jr. & wife, Leah, of Brazil, Mike D. Butcher & wife, Angy, of Reelsville, and Shelly Hutchison & wife, Michelle, of Brazil; a daughter, Kim Ripple & husband, Jeff, of Brazil; a stepdaughter, Sue A. Frazier & husband, John, of Greencastle; a stepson, Donald Lanham & wife, Shirley, of Brazil; four brothers, Dennis Butcher & wife, Judy; Sam Butcher & wife, Linda; Joe Butcher & wife, Gail, all of W. VA., and Julius Butcher & wife, Rose, of Texas; a sister Natalie Elison & husband, Don, of Cloverdale; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Clearview Cemetery in Brazil, IN, with the Pastor Troy Trout officiating. Burial to follow with military rites.
Friends may call at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday.
