Hester "Genevieve" (Kress) Lucas, 89, of Jasonville, Ind., died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at Sullivan County Community Hospital.
She was born April 17, 1916, in Clay County, the daughter of Leslie Leonard Kress and May (Mullens) Kress. She married Harley F. Lucas April 8, 1934. She was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by five daughters, Deloris Jackson of Valparaiso, Ind.; Helena Heinzman and husband Bill of Algood, Tenn.; Cleopheus Cliff of Bloomfield, Ind.; Marcella House and husband Graham of Jasonville, Ind.; and Stella Mae House and husband Decker, also of Jasonville; one son, Leland Lucas and wife Virginia of Hymera, Ind.; one sister, Helen Sparks of Farmersburg, Ind.; a daughter-in-law, Maryann Lucas of Clay City, Ind.; and two adopted granddaughters, Patti Cliff Lucas Moore and husband Greg of Bloomington, Ind., and Amanda Cliff Lucas Hollingsworth of Vicksburg, Ind.; 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Pearl Leonard Lucas; a brother, Elmis Kress; a grandson, Harley D. House; a granddaughter, June Kay Cliff; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Rose Wetnight; and two sons-in-law, Eldon Lee Jackson and James Cliff, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2005, at the McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home, 631 East Main St., Jasonville, IN 47438, with Rev. Harold Thomas and Pastor Bob Dickey presiding. Burial will follow at Friendly Grove Cemetery at Lewis, Ind. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday.
