Stephen Earl Hackett, 59, of Brazil, died at 6:16 a.m. Tuesday October 25, 2005 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Born December 30, 1945, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Henry Earl and the late Grace (Pugh) Hackett. Mr. Hackett married Patricia Louise Johnson on July 1, 1967 in Tipton, Indiana.

After graduating in 1964 from Tipton High School and while studying at Indiana University Kokomo, he worked until 1971 in Kokomo as a Branch Manager for First National Bank. Following a year with American General Life Insurance Company in Lafayette, he returned to banking as the Executive Vice President in charge of all operations for First Bank of Carroll County in Burlington, Indiana. In 1984 the family moved to Brazil where he worked for First National Bank and Trust serving in various capacities including Executive V.P., C.F.O., Investment Officer and Operations Officer. Most recently, he was Owner and President of Century Home Mortgage in Brazil, Indiana, which he founded in 1998.

He was very involved with his family, attended the Nazarene Church, enjoyed all types of sporting events and was a member of the Clay County Board of Realtors and the Clay County Chamber of Commerce. He had formerly served as Chairman of the Clay County Republican Central Committee and was Campaign Manager for Congressman Ed Pease and Congressman Brian Kerns; President, Treasurer and Director of the United Way of Clay County; Director of the Clay County Economic Development Organization (CCEDO) and the Clay County YMCA. He was also a former member of the Clay County Hospital Advisory Council, the Clay County Redevelopment Organization and the Brazil Rotary Club. For six years he served in the Indiana National Guard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister: Mary Oberdier and his father-in-law: Jean L. Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Louise (Johnson) Hackett; his son, Brent Hackett of San Diego, California; two daughters: Holly Froderman and husband Tad of Brazil, Tracy Snyder and husband Chris of Lapel, Indiana; three grandchildren, Corbin and Gracelyn Froderman of Brazil, and Ava Lynn Snyder of Lapel. Also surviving him are one sister, Sherry Andrews and husband Don of Noblesville, Indiana; two brothers, Bradford Hackett and wife Gloria of Columbus, Ohio, Paul Hackett and his wife Zanne of Brazil; two half sisters, Ferol Labash and husband Phillip of Illinois, Ellen Hackett of Andrews, Indiana; one stepsister, Bonnie Vandeventer and husband Rick of Elizabeth, Indiana; one stepbrother, David Wilson and wife Teri of Indiana; his mother-in-law, Fairy "Mimi" Johnson of Brazil; brother-in-law Jeff Johnson and wife Lisa of Lapel and many nieces and nephews

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 pm and one hour before the service at Moore Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm at Moore Funeral Home, with the Reverend Gary Scroggins officiating.

Burial will follow on Saturday in Clearview Cemetery, Brazil.
