Betty Jane (Martin) Smock, 71, of Brazil, died at her residence in the morning of October 26, 2005. She was born July 23, 1934, to Cleo and Helen Mager Martin. She graduated from Van Buren High School. On August 18, 1968, she married Water "Tom" Smock. Betty worked for Mayor Pickett's office as his secretary and as a dispatcher for Clay County. She was also a secretary at the Ames Company. She was a member of the VFW. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, especially Euchre, humming birds and watching Clint Eastwood movies.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; two brothers, Cleo "Junior" Martin and Bobby Martin; and a sister, Charlene Martin.

She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Lynn Jenkins and husband, Walter, of Waukesha, Wis., Tammy Sinders and husband, Perry, of Brazil, Sheri Weber of Terre Haute and Pam Chamberlain and husband, Mark, of Brazil; a brother, Richard Martin, and wife, Kay; a sister, Kathleen "Kathy" Brown and husband, Gilbert "Gib," all of Brazil; grandchildren Stephanie and husband, Thomas Turks, of Wisconsin; Meredith Lerma and husband, Francisco, of Wisconsin, Geri Lynn Jenkins of Wisconsin, Jonathan Sinders, Elizabeth Sinders, Beau McKinney and Dylan McKinney, all of Brazil; great-grandchildren Olivia Turks of Wisconsin and Madison Jenkins of Wisconsin.

Services for Betty will be at French Funeral Home, Monday, October 31, 2005, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Piatt officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Visit www.frenchfuneralhome.com to light a candle in her memory.
