Margaret "Helen" Ames, 87, of Brazil, died at 2 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at Cloverleaf Healthcare Ind., Knightsville, Ind.
She was born May 27, 1918, in Clay County, as the daughter of John M. and Pearl Smith Thompson. She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1936. She married Charles Wm. Ames in June of 1940. She was employed for several years as a ward clerk at Clay County Hospital. She was a charter member of the Van Buren Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling and her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1976; one sister, Betty T. Bryan and seven brothers, Alfred, Bill, Robert, Donald, Kent, Max and Richard Thompson.
She is survived by one sister, Winifred Allen; one daughter, Charlotte Chamberlain and husband, Raymond, of Brazil; four sons, Richard Ames and wife, Rhoda, of Darlington, Ind., Stan Ames and wife, Millie, of Indianapolis, Tom Ames and wife, Sandy, of Center Point, and Gary Ames and wife, Julie, of Brazil; grandchildren Jeff, Brad, and Mark Chamberlain, April Lynch, Kim Ames, Amber Ames, Chuck, Matt, Mike and Chris Ames, and Kristin, Scott, Ryan and Jordan Ames; 19 great-grandchildren; a dear friend, Sarah Wheat; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour before funeral services on Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Howard Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
