Alene Koher Wilcoxon, age 89, died December 30, 2005, at the Hospice of Treasure Coast in Stuart, Florida.
She was born January 19, 1916, in Cromwell, Indiana, as the daughter of Brenton M. and Ocie Pearl Stough Koher. Following high school she attended Indiana Central University where she met Francis Wilcoxon. They were married on Thanksgiving Day in 1941 at Indiana Village church near Lake Wawasee.
She began teaching in northern Indiana and locally taught at Ashboro, Staunton, and Van Buren High Schools. Before retiring from Clay Community School Corporation, Alene was a K-12 physical education and high school English teacher for 22 years, as well as a full time wife and mother.
Alene and her husband, Francis, had wintered in Hobe Sound, Florida, since 1980. Alene was a member of the First Baptist Church and an associate member of the First United Methodist Church of Hobe Sound, Florida.
Her kind heart and a generous spirit were demonstrated by wide smiles and friendly hugs. She will be missed by her loving family and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ronald Koher and half-brother, Lavon Koher.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years Francis M. Wilcoxon, a son, Richard and his wife, Cindy, grandchildren, Jeffrey, Lindsay, Emily, and Elizabeth and John Terril, two daughters, Mary Wilcoxon Obringer, her husband, Mark, and grandson, Max, and Dr. Jane Wilcoxon Lawther, her husband, Dr. Donald Robinson, loving nephews and their families.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday with Pastors Mark Jackson and Tim Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
