Leona Wickware, age 88, of Brazil, died at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Cloverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville with her family at her side.

Leona was born March 9, 1917 in Scooba, Mississippi as the daughter of George and Daisy Jenkins. After her family moved to Brazil, where she attended Brazil High School. She married Jay T. Wickware February 15, 1943 in Terre Haute. Leona was employed as a domestic worker in local family homes.

She was a member of the Second Baptist Church and the First Christian Church of Brazil. She had also participated in the Farm Girls Sunshine Club, D.O.R., Best Years Club, Ladies Circle North Vernon and she was a volunteer at the Clay Health Center and the local food pantry. Leona was a top fund raiser for the Clay County American Cancer Society Relay for Life and a longtime member of T.O.P.S.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1996; one son, Steve Wickware in 1994; one sister, Martha Wickware; two daughters, Delia Ann Murphy and Pearl Lee Wickware and two brothers, Willie Jenkins and James Jenkins.

She is survived by four sons, William H. Wickware of Phoenix, Arizona, John W. Wickware of Flint, Michigan, Robert L. Wickware of Indianapolis and Larry Wickware and wife, Helen, of Mt. Morris, Michigan; one daughter, Sandra Wickware, of Brazil; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her companion, Freddie.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home and two hours before church funeral services. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church with Pastor Johnnie White officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.
