William (Bill) Carl Guess, 74, devoted father, loving husband and grandfather passed away in Indianapolis on Sunday, January 22, 2006.
He was born March 14, 1931, in Altoona, Alabama, to Mayburn Alfred and Grace Elizabeth Bolton Guess. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed on Koji Island. On April 19, 1954, he married Johanne June Rome Guess. He was a brick salesman for Alliance Clay Products in Ohio. Following the closing of the Alliance plant Bill and his family moved to Clay County where he began working for Marion Brick and then Glenn Gery Brick where he was the head of the Midwest Sales Division. Bill retired in 1996 and he and Johanne have enjoyed traveling across the country to visit friends and family. He was a member of the Brazil Rotary Club, Brazil Elks, American Legion, Forest Park Golf Course and the Home Builders Association of the Wabash Valley. He was an avid fisherman, a par golfer, exceptional bowler and loved to travel.
His parents, a brother, Harold Guess and a grandson Matthew Adam Guess preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael Guess and wife Mary of Salem, Oregon, Gregory Guess and wife Lisa of Lindenhurst, Illinois, Jeffrey Guess and wife Karen of Camby, Indiana; grandchildren David Guess of Reseda, California, Mark Guess and wife Annie of Camby, Oregon, Sarah Guess of Camby, Indiana; Michelle Guess of Azusa, California, Bethany Guess of Azusa, Amy Guess of Camby, Indiana, James Guess of Lindenhurst, Illinois, Christina Guess of Lindenhurst; siblings Wyona Phillips of Orme, Tennessee, Roy Guess of Alliance, Ohio, Ethel McConney of Uniontown, Ohio, Dorothy Blanset of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, Ray Guess and wife Elaine, Mayburn Guess Jr. and wife Patricia and Joyce and husband Garen Johnson, all of Stevenson, Alabama.
Services will be at French Funeral Home on Friday, January 27, 2006, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lyle Monnett officiating. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. and again Friday from 9 a.m. until time of services.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Indiana University Medical Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
