Chame Forest "Doc" Baysinger, 87, of Brazil died February 15, 2006 at St. Vincent Clay Hospital. He had been a resident at Holly Hills for a time.
He was the last of the children born to Charles Simon Baysinger and Della Lane Baysinger. He was born southwest of Cayuga on January 5, 1917.
He graduated from Cayuga High School, April of 1935.
He joined the Navy and served briefly in the Caribbean and then in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged with the rating Chief Radioman on November of 1945.
He attended Indiana University upon returning home from the service. In 1951 he began working with the Brazil City Police Department. He then went to railway mail service between Pittsburgh and St. Louise. He ended his postal career retiring from Air Mail Facility, Weir Cook, on July 31, 1972. He was a life-time member of both the American Legion Post 2, and VFW Post 1127.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Bernece Smith Baysinger on December 19, 1976; his second wife Mary Phelps Baysinger on June 29, 1987; one daughter Leah Rae Thurston, on May 25, 1983; two sisters Edna and Hazel; brothers, Frank, Fred, Bert, Tom, David, and Joe; one brother in infancy.
He is survived by two grandsons, Neal Thurston and wife Marlee of Scott Air Force Base and Danny Thurston and wife Kathi of Princeton, IN; one granddaughter Catherine E. "Betsy" Zimmerman and husband John of Kentucky; five great-grandchildren Zack Thurston, Nick Thurston, Alexander Etherton, Megan Etherton and Leah Zimmerman; many nieces and nephews and extended family; and close family friend, Paula Swearingen.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at French Funeral Home with Lindy Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
