Doris (Hood) Martin, 74, of Carbon, passed away at 1:24 p.m. Feb. 19, 2006, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born April 9, 1931, in Lena, Ind., to James and Wilma Doan (Hood). She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1948. Doris married Elmer Martin Sept. 4, 1948. She then worked for Quaker Maid and Pillsbury for over 30 years. Mrs. Martin enjoyed riding in her golf cart, gardening, mowing and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leon Thomas, a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Butch Routson.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer Martin; son, Danny Joe Martin of Carbon; daughter, Cindy Lancaster of Carbon; four grandchildren, Brandy Schrader of Carbon; Scott Schrader and wife, Amee, Jennifer Martin and Jeremy Martin all of Brazil; two great-grandchildren Caden Schrader and Logan Goetz; brothers Bill Hood and wife Roxie and Jim Hood and wife Norma; sister-in-law Sarah Skidmore of Brazil and a special niece Kim Glassburn of Brazil; and a large extended family.
Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bill Price officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and again Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until time of services.
