Helen G. Dowell, 87, of Terre Haute, passed away at 6:54 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2006, at Union Hospital.
She was born November 18, 1918, at Terre Haute, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Reifenberg) Stroot. She married Ralph L. Dowell June 26, 1948, and he survives.
She retired from Quaker Maid in 1950 after 12 years to become a homemaker. She had attended St. Benedict School and graduated from Wiley High School. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables, many of which she canned for her family. She also enjoyed making tasty candy at Christmas for her family and friends.
Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Sherry Dowell of Carbon; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Patrick Voll of Seelyville, Indiana; two grandchildren, Rawley Dowell and his wife, Tabitha, of Carbon; and Jennifer Wallen and her husband, Henry, of Brazil; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Harry, Frank, Ed, George and Clarence and four sisters, Mary, Margaret, Betsy and Frances.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 3, 2006, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Joel Burget as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Callahan Funeral Home with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.
