Frances Wallace "Fran" Dunbar, 87 of Manhattan, Kansas, died Monday, February 27, 2007, at the Mercy Regional Health Center.
She was born on January 28, 1919, in Asherville, Indiana, the daughter of Elmer and Emma (Steuerwald) Wallace.
On October 7, 1945, in Brazil she was united in marriage to Dr. John O. Dubar. He survives at home. Additional survivors include two daughters, Elaine Dunbar and her husband, Al Hester of St. Paul, Minn.; and Kathleen Later and her husband Roger of Santa Monica, Calif.; three granddaughters, Christina, Anna and Sarah Dunbar-Hester.
Mrs. Dunbar graduated fourth in her class of 160 from Brazil High School in Indiana and later from Purdue University with her degree in Home Economics Education and a minor in chemistry. She taught as a high school Home Economics teacher and later at Purdue University prior to her marriage to John. Mrs. Dunbar was a homemaker. Her memberships include the First Christian Church and the Do-Day Group, P.E.O. Chapter GU, Domestic Science, University Social Club, Quilt Guild, Sewing Guild, life member of the Purdue Alumni Association, and was the first president of the Purdue Home Economics Alumni Association.
Fran was a wonderful cook, enjoyed sewing, traveling and home decorating. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church with Rev. Neil Engle officiating. Private family internment services will be in Sunrise Cemetery.
