Carol Joan Lankford, 79, of Clay City passed away at 10:10 a.m. April 13, 2006, at her residence.
She was born January 14, 1927, in Clay County, Indiana the daughter of Samuel E. Horn and Gladys Bennell Horn. She was a 1945 graduate of Clay City High School. September 6, 1946 she married Warren Dale Lankford, he preceded her in death April 6, 2005.
She had been the food service supervisor at the Clay County Sheriff's Department prior to her retirement. She had been very active in the Clay County Democratic Party serving as precinct committee person for several years in Harrison Township.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, William Dale Horn; and one sister, Marjorie Horn.
She is survived by her children, Mike Lankford of Clay City; John Lankford and wife Nancy of Bowling Green, Indiana; Sue Monnett of Crossville, Tennessee and Polly Haviland and husband, Carl of Clay City; 13 grandchildren, Stacy Carrell and husband, Todd of Clay City; Karla Barnhart and husband, Kevin of Terre Haute; Krista Nichols and husband, John of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Jackie Gaskin of Brazil; Melissa Allen of Indianapolis; Josh Lankford and wife, Shauna of Waukegan, Illinois; Elaina Lankford of Bowling Green; David Lankford and wife, Adrianne of Anderson, Indiana; Donielle Moore and husband, Steve of Crossville, Tennessee; John Barker and wife, Brandy of Crossville, Tennessee, Jimmy Horn of Valparaiso, Indiana; Sam Monnett of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Rhonda Hutchinson of Clay City; 22 great-grandchildren and one brother, James D. Horn.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Trimble officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to time of service.
