Sarah Amanda Sawyer Carpenter entered into Heaven April 14, 2006.
Sally was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Newport, Indiana, to Herbert Sawyer and Elma Reid Sawyer. She graduated from Business College in Indianapolis, Indiana, then worked for several years in the Statehouse. She and her husband, Dr. George Carpenter lived in Brazil, IN until retirement when they moved to Hemet, California. After her husband's death in 2000, she moved to Fort Wayne to be with her daughter, Mrs. Bette Sue Rowe.
She served as president of the Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa for two years and was president of the Indiana Dental Auxiliary in 1964. Both George and Sally were active in the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. She loved to entertain, so she took courses at the Clown School, graduating in 1984. She was also a member of the "lady bugs" bridge club in Fort Wayne. She loved dogs. She was an accomplished painter in both oils and water paintings. Her spirit was determined and robust.
She is survived by three children, Bette Sue Rowe of Fort Wayne, Indiana; George Carpenter Jr. of Dunedin Florida; and Connie Lou Konrath of Sanford, Florida; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Sally was preceded in passing by a brother, Colonel Sawyer of San Diego and a sister, Bertha Ellis of Indianapolis. There is no visitation or service. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Memories at Roselawn Memorial Park, Terre Haute, Indiana.
