Born Dec. 5, 1925, in Clay County, Ind., she was the daughter of John Edgar and Laura Ester (Harrington) Gummere. She was a graduate of Cory High School. She married Shirrel Alexander on April 6, 1947 and he survives.
Mrs. Alexander had been a homemaker and worked at several places throughout her life. She was a member of the Fillmore Christian Church and the Club Sixteen Home Economics Club Fillmore.
Survivors include her husband; a son, William Kumpf, Jr. and wife, Mary of Tennessee; a daughter, Virginia Boyce and husband, Ken of Fillmore; a stepson, Stephen Alexander and wife, Betty of Ocala, Florida; two sisters, Edith Gummere and Louise Kylander and husband, Fred, both of Center Point; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Hughes and Martha Poppaw; and three brothers, Louis, John and Dale Gummere.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Fishback officiating. Burial will be in the Fillmore Cemetery.
