Juanita Staggs, of rural Terre Haute, passed away May 7, 2006, at 4:30 a.m. in her home with her family at her side.
She was born November 8, 1917, in Ashboro the daughter of Joseph Knust and Emma Deil Knust. She graduated from Cory High School. She married Paul R. Staggs and they owned and operated their family farm in rural Vigo County. They worked hard on the farm together, alongside one another. They had dairy cows and were also grain farmers. She was known to be an excellent cook, especially in making pies and noodles. She worked in the garden and canned the bounty of the garden. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her two sons, Leland Staggs and Gerald Staggs; one grandson, Chris Staggs; two great-grandsons, Jacob Staggs and Austin Staggs; four great-nieces and one great-nephew Kathy Booe, Karla Runyon, Kim Gerber, Mary Jo Royer and Keith Nees; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul Staggs; her twin brother Emerson "Cookie" Knust and his wife Florence Knust; one sister, Thelma Ell and husband Ray; a grandson, John Staggs; daughter-in-law, Char Staggs; a niece Linda Knust Nees and husband, Alan Nees; and a nephew Joe Knust.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. and again Wednesday prior to services.
