Donald "Skip" Rhodes, 62, of Brazil, died 6:23 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006, at his residence.

He was born June 10, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio, as the son of Hugh Ernest and Martha Campbell Rhodes. Don graduated from Brazil High School. He graduated from Indiana State University with the Class of 1972. During the Vietnam War, Don served in the U.S. Navy as a diver until his honorable discharge with the rank of Lt. Commander.

Don was self employed as a Master Electrician owning his own firm, The Power Company.

He had attended the First Presbyterian Church of Brazil, a member for over 40 years of American Legion Post 2, a member of VFW Post 972, Sigma Pi Fraternity and BPOE 759. Don was also a member of the National Ski Patrol.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Sarah Rhodes Cardinal, and her husband, Harold "Butch," of Vincennes; one nephew, Eric Cardinal; stepmother Helen Mills Rhodes of Clay City; one cousin, Stuart Rhodes; companion of 20 years, Cheryl Reese Blevens and best friend, Bill Wilkison of Terre Haute.

Cremation services were provided by Moore Funeral Home. A memorial service with Military Honors by VFW Post 1127 and American Legion Post 2 will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cottage Hill Cemetery. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Legion Post 2. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
