Billy Pursell, 71, of Greencastle, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2006, at St. Vincents Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born June 26, 1934, in Putnam County, he was the son of Carl and Dortha (Beck) Pursell. He was a graduate of Greencastle High School Class of 1953, and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

He retired from IBM after 33 years in 1987, worked at Crawford Industries in Crawfordsville retiring in 1997, and worked part-time at Soapy Joe's Carwash. He attended the First Baptist Church, was also a member of the Lion's Club in Greencastle, and the Masonic Lodge, in Fillmore, Indiana.

He was married to Jean "Jeanie" (Johnson) Pursell on Sept. 22, 1956, and she survives. Other survivors include a son, Mike Pursell and wife, Kristine, of Carmel, Indiana; three daughters, Barbara Huebner and husband, Brian, of Chicago, Lynda Wells and husband, Jeff, of Brazil and Nancy Chapman and husband, Doug, of Noblesville, Indiana; a brother, Fred Pursell, and wife, Loretta, of Greencastle and two sisters, Betty Pursell of Indianapolis and Freda Thrasher and husband, Charles, of Monrovia, Indiana, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John Pursell, and an infant son, Richard Lee.

Services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle with the Rev. Jimmy Collins officiating. Burial with full military rites will be held at Forest Hill Cemetry. Visitation is on Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
