William H. James Jr., 78, of Brazil passed away June 29, 2006, at 1:45 a.m at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility. He was born Nov. 10, 1927, in Terre Haute the son of William H. James Sr. and Rose Bemis James.
Aug. 30, 1947, he married Frances Boyce James; she survives.
As a young man he worked on the railroad and also did factory work. He worked for Stransteel, retiring from there in 1981.
He enjoyed being in the woods, mushroom hunting, fishing and caring for his rose garden.
He is survived by his wife Frances; three sons, William James and wife, Debbie, of Monrovia, Tom James and wife, Patty, of Brazil, Ronald James and wife, Brenda, of Terre Haute; two daughters, Wilma Searcy and Dan Stamper of Brazil and Norma Whalen and husband, John, of Avon; 10 grandchildren, Casey James, Hannah James, Michelle Searcy, Angela Dickison, Jason James, Billy James, Lora Gibson, Amy James, John Whalen and Tammy Mason; six step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, John James and wife, Doris, of Brazil; one sister, Eva Niece, of Dixon, Mo.; several nieces; nephews; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ben James; sisters, Hazel Berkley, Alice Bullock, Rose Ann Wampler, Elizabeth Borden Thorton, and Reva Brewster; and a grandson, Scott A. James.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at French Funeral Home with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and again one hour prior to services on Sunday.
