Robert L. Wedel, 78, of Brazil, died at 11:30 a.m., July 15, 2006 at Seton Specialty Hospital in Carmel, Indiana.
Born Jan. 13, 1928 in Staunton, Ind., he was the son of Ernest O. and Ruth Tiefel Wedel.
He was a 1945 graduate of Brazil High School.After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked for Western Electric and then AT&T until retiring and settling down in Florida. An avid sports fan, he loved golf and Indiana University basketball.
On March 1, 1953, he married Mable Jo Carter who survives along with three children, Karen L. Horvath, Brazil, James H. Wedel, Chicago, Ill. and David E. Wedel, Evansville; sisters Sharon Hoffman, Brazil and Sandra Atkinson, Knightsville; sister-in-law Patty Sue Rickard and her husband, Dennis, Pittsboro, Ind.; four grandchildren, Paul Horvath, Thomas Horvath, Jillian English and Tamrah English; five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Ethan, Christa, Taylor and Evan; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Ellen Coulson, son-in-law Jack Coulson; parents; brothers Erroll Wedel, Ralph Wedel; sisters, Arline Anderson and Joan Nayarkas.
He was a member of Brazil First Christian Church, B.P.O Elks and American Legion Post 2.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Lawson-Miller Chapel in Brazil with Chris Gregg officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to services. Burial and graveside services will be Saturday, July 22, 2006, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Westmoreland, Tenn.
