Carl W. Hopper, of Boulder, Colo., died of Alzheimer's disease Monday, July 10, 2006, in Boulder. He was 71.
The son of Clemens W. Hopper and Florence Mayfield Hopper, he was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Brazil. He married Virginia L. Job on Nov. 5, 1955, in Brazil. He graduated from Brazil High School in 1952. Mr. Hopper moved to Boulder in 1967.
He served in the U.S. Army's 187th RCT Airborne Division from 1952 to 1955, during the Korean Conflict, and earned a Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge.
He worked for IBM for 36 years.
Mr. Hopper enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, horses, traveling and his family.
"His humor and wit will never be forgotten," the family said.
Survivors include his wife, of Boulder; three daughters, Brenda Taylor, Pinewood Springs, Nancy Lamothe, DeLand, Fla., and Carol Foster Boulder; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Jane McGowan of Braden, Fla.
