Wayne H. Nussel, 88 of Brazil passed away Aug. 8, 2006, at 7:07 a.m. at Holly Hills Healthcare Facility. He was born July 22, 1918, in Clay County the son of William Nussel and Pearl Helton Nussel.
On Oct. 18, 1941, he married Marcelene Fogel Nussel. Soon after their marriage he joined the ranks of the U.S. Army serving in the European Theater during World War II. Following the war, he began work as a heavy equipment operator, first with Quality Coal Company in Clay County, later working for Martin-Marietta in the stone quarries. He worked for Martin-Marietta for close to 20 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Knightsville Masonic Lodge. He and his wife Marcelene enjoyed playing euchre with friends and family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his sons. He was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Marcelene Nussel; one son, John Nussel and wife, Kathy, of Brownsburg, Ind.; two grandchildren, Kristen Nussel and Adam Nussel also of Brownsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Thomas Wayne Nussel, Dec. 6, 2003; three brothers Clifford Nussel, Wilbur Nussel, and Glen Nussel; and one sister Gladys Cass.
Services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at French Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until services at 2:30 p.m. Military graveside rites will be provided by American Legion Post 2 and VFW 1127.
