Gladys Nussel Cass, 85, died July 26, 2006, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was born June 3, 1921, in Clay County, Ind., to William Nussel and Pearl Helton Nussel. She attended business school and worked in the Civil Service.
During World War II she served in the Navy as a WAVE. She married a sailor, Elijah James (Jim) Cass Jr., Sept. 11, 1954, in Washington, D.C. He preceded her in death (1973).
In 1969, she returned to work, and was the secretary to the Executive Officer at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi at her retirement in 1981. Gladys continued an active life after retirement, including volunteer work at the Naval Hospital, and participation in the Daughters of the Nile, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include her children, Colleen Sorensen of Washington and James Cass of Texas; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her brothers were Clifford Nussel, Wilbur Nussel, Wayne Nussel and Glen Nussel.
Visitation was held on July 31, 2006, at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services followed at St. John's United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Seaside Memorial Park, Corpus Christi, Texas.
