Jack Lee Steuerwald, 74 of Brazil died at 12:48 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at Cloverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville, Ind.

He was born Aug. 4, 1932, in Clay County, Ind., as the son of Hallie Audrey Steuerwald. He graduated from Clay City High School with the Class of 1950. Following high school he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War until his Honorable Discharge in 1953. Jack was employed with Public Service Indiana and then began a 45- year career as a truck driver until his retirement from Consolidated Freightways.

He married Mary Lee Shobe on May 6, 1962.

He attended Fairview Christian Church, was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars where he was Past Post Commander and a member of Teamsters Local 135. Jack was also a pilot who piloted his own airplane and enjoyed giving children their first airplane ride. He was a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. In 2004 Jack graduated from the IVY Tech Aircraft Maintenance Technology Program with honors. He was an avid reader and history buff.

He was preceded in death by his mother; stepfather, Wallace Coffey; stepbrother, Robert Coffey; and his first wife, Betty Horn Steuerwald in 1958.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lee; four sons, Richard Steuerwald and wife, Wendy, of Cincinnati, Glen Daniel Steuerwald and fiancée, Deborah Freeze, of Brazil, Dennis W. Steuerwald of Aurora, Colo., and William Andrew Steuerwald and wife, Michelle, of Affton, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Shannon Moore and husband, Jay, Shawnee, Sheenna, Daniel, Elizabeth, Jackson and William Steuerwald and Nicholas Chute and one greatgrandchild, Nathaniel Tisdale.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Warren Whittington officiating. Burial with Military Honors by VFW Post 1127 and American Legion Post 2 at Clearview Cemetery.
