Raymond L. Garrard, Sr., 71 of Brazil, formerly of Parke County, passed away 12:20 a.m. at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 28, 1936, in Robinson, Ill., the son of Alfred and Alice Stephens Garrard. He graduated from high school in Robinson.
As a young man he moved to Parke County Indiana and began working as a farmer for Gene Hawkins. He was forced to retire from farming several years ago following complications from heart disease. He moved to Brazil in 1979 and has enjoyed spending time with family and traveling from time to time.
Survivors include his children, Diana Presslor of Chrisman, Ill., Jeff Garrard of Indianapolis, Tina Presslor and husband Don of Brazil, Raymond Garrard, Jr. of Brazil, Chris Garrard of Indianapolis and Phillip Garrard and wife Mandra of Brazil; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Clara Garrard Deakins of Brazil; one sister, Jetta Pittman of Robinson; four brothers Clayton Garrard of Casey, Kenneth Garrard, Robert Garrard and Larry Garrard all of Robinson, Ill.; many nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Michael Garrard and infant son Jackie Lee Garrard.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at French Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Cremation will follow with burial of the ashes at family service later in Robinson New Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to the American Heart Association. Post a heart of condolence at www.frenchfuneralhome.com.
