Betty J. Gibbens, 78 of Brazil, passed away Sept. 10, 2006, at Holly Hills Healthcare Facility.

She was born Sept. 1, 1928, in Vigo County the daughter of Thomas Tabor and Helen Cornwell Tabor. She attended Brazil High School. Aug. 9, 1947, she married Gerald Gibbens. He preceded her in death Oct. 4, 2004. She was a member of the Center Point United Methodist Church. For many years she was a Stanley Home Products distributor. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge; the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was the past president of the VFW Post 1127 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children, Nancy Sue Ellis and husband, Robert, of Staunton, Linda Diane Pieske and husband Melvin, and Terry D. Gibbens and wife Sandra of Knightsville; eight grandchildren, Terri Harlan and husband John, Aaron Slater and wife Amanda, Steve Ellis and wife Leah, Jasen Gibbens and wife Stacy, Justen Gibbens and wife Beth, Jared Gibbens and wife Jamie, Matricia Rader and husband Michael, and Matthew Pieske and wife Stacie; 20 great-grandchildren, Aaron Paul, Christian, Hannah, Hayden, Hank, Chelsea, Katie, Alexis, Nicholas, Samantha, Zachary, Parker, Rachel, Piper, Eli, Christopher, Brandon, Mikayla, Mattison, and Landon; one brother Jerry W. Tabor and wife Evelyn of Fredonia, Ariz.; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother Thomas Tabor, and four sisters, Patricia Schroeder, Sara Bryan, Rosalie and Ruth Lee Tabor.

Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lawson-Miller Chapel with Rev. Richard Pippin officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jasen Gibbens, Justen Gibbens, Jared Gibbens, Aaron Slater, Matthew Pieske, and Michael Rader. Visitation will be Wednesday, 4-8 p.m. and again Thursday prior to services.
