Betty Joan Heaton, 71, of Cory, passed away, Sept. 23, 2006, following an extended illness.
She was born in Clay County, Oct. 6, 1934, to Carl and Kathryn Haney Sparks. She graduated from Cory High School in 1952.
Betty married Forrest Heaton June 28, 1953. She served as the Township Assessor for several years. She was active in the Cory Zion Church, Order of Eastern Star, Riley Chapter 22, and the Cory Zion Church Ladies Aid.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, canning, and watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, as well as spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Forrest Heaton, a daughter, Marcia Spencer and husband, Rick, of Valrico, Florida; three sons, John W. Heaton and wife Linda of Sullivan, Robert A. Heaton and wife Jane Ann of Terre Haute, Thomas C. Heaton and wife Patti also of Terre Haute; grandchildren Michael Heaton and wife Monica, Jennifer Sabell and husband Chris, Bryan Heaton and wife Crystal, Amy Boston and husband Jeff, Chris Nolan and wife Terri, Megan Spencer, Blake Spencer, Allison Heaton, Travis Heaton, Lacey Heaton, Brandon Heaton, Kylie Heaton, Jared Menestrina, Ashlee Menestrina, Brittany Menestrina; Great-grandchildren Kelsey Heaton, Joshua Heaton, Lindsey Heaton, Brodey Heaton, Katelyn Heaton, Madison Boston, Aidan Boston, and Austin Menestrina.
Services for Betty will be at Shoppenhorst Funeral Home Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Anthony Ferriell and the Rev. Jerry Caskey officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cory Zion Church Building Fund.
