Bernice Irene Steuerwald, 91, of Brazil died at 10:34 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
She was born Feb. 14, 1915, near Art in Clay County, Ind., as the daughter of William and Elizabeth Hoffman Taggart. She graduated from Cory High School with the Class of 1934. She married Wayne Steuerwald on Nov. 21, 1940. She was a loving homemaker who also worked for over 15 years at J.C. Penney. She was a member of Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church. She had been active with the Home Ec. Club, United Methodist Women's Club, The Women's Society and served on the Vigo County 4-H Board and she enjoyed quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wayne, Dec. 26, 1986; three brothers, Carl, Fred, Claude and infant brother George Taggart and five sisters, Alpha Hopkins, Effie Delaney, Mary Coble, Merle Morley and Ann Latham.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen Sauer, of Macon, Ga.; one son, Robert Steuerwald and wife Cheryl of Brazil; three grandchildren, Kristen Jones and husband Steven of Eatonton, Georgia, Erik Sauer and wife Laura of Thornton, Colo., and Brian Steuerwald of Indianapolis; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Cardine Jones and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday, at Moore Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association.
