Gene Ray Butts

Mr. Gene Ray Butts, 82, of Marietta, Ga., died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006 at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born in Brazil, Ind. Mr. Butts has been a resident of Cobb County for the past 43 years. He was in sales and leasing for 40 years and a former general manager for Downtown Chevrolet in Terre Haute, Ind. He was one of the original founding members of World Gospel Church in Terre Haute. He served in the 8th Army Air Corps where he was a radio operator and waist-gunner in a B-24 where he was shot down over Austria and was awarded 3 Bronze Service Stars in W.W.II. He was a Chaplain for the Marietta Fire Dept. #2 for 30 years. He was a Baptist. Mr. Butts was preceded in death by his brother, Max Butts.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Ballinger Butts of Marietta, two sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Cathy Butts of Marietta and Bradley and Cathy Butts of Marietta, two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Terry Paegler of Charlotte, N.C. and Benita and Frank Padgett of Mineral Buff, Ga., two sisters, Nina Bettenbrock of Cory, Ind. and Reba Schopmeyer of Washington, D.C. and eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006 from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta.
