Margaret Ann Evans Deal, 77 of Brazil died at 7:05 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2006, at Cloverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville.

She was born July 18, 1929, in Clay County, Indiana, to Roy N. Evans and Ruth L. Springer Evans. She graduated from Brazil High School in 1947. She married Charles "Ed" Deal on September 6, 1953, in the 1st EUB Church in Brazil by Rev. A.R. Jansen. She worked as a bookkeeper for Evans Electric, Hedge Motor Co., Hughes Chrysler-Plymouth, and the law offices of James E. Deal.

She was a member of Christ Community Church. She enjoyed playing hand bells with the Bells of Brazil and had served as treasurer for several years. She enjoyed the theatre and had acted, directed and produced numerous church and community plays. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and God's Word, having devoted herself to the study of the scriptures for many years. She taught numerous Sunday School classes and led church youth groups. She was a member of the El Shaddai Emmaus Community beginning with her walk, Walk 15 and had worked several walks over the following years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Nelson Evans and Gerald Evans and his wife Margaret; her sister, Marybelle Evans; her brothers-in-law Bob Deal, Bill Deal and Hubert Wyndham; and her in-laws, Paul and Minnie Deal.

She is survived by her husband, Ed Deal, and her five children and their spouses, Jim and Kathy Deal, Jeff and Crystal Deal, Angie and Jeff Modesitt, all of Brazil and Teresa and Mark Jenkins and Joe and Monica Deal, all of Indianapolis. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Amanda Groce and husband Brian, Katie Jenkins, Sarah Jenkins, Andrew Jenkins, all of Indianapolis and David Deal of Plainfield; Suzanne Olsen and husband Keith, Jana Deal, Evan Deal, Amber Modesitt, Alex Modesitt and Stephen Modesitt, all of Brazil; and Abby Kilzer and husband Curt of Hampstead, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Chloe Groce, Dylan Groce and Camdyn Cooper. Also surviving are three brothers, Roy Evan, Jr. of Terre Haute, Richard "Boone" Evans and wife Pat of Brazil and Phil Evans and friend Herbert Kuebler of Bloomington; two sisters, Josephine Shuck and husband Gilbert of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Norma Childress of Lowell, Indiana; sister-in-law Elizabeth Evans and Francie Wyndham of Brazil, Betty Reckerd and husband Milo of Fayetteville, N.C., Phyllis Deal and Mildred Zambini of Terre Haute; brother-in-law Kenneth Deal of Brazil and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Christ Community Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
